Openings and Activations
Ready before the doors open
Grand openings, bar and venue launches, and rally week activations. We run the sound, the lighting, and the booth, and we build all three around a crowd that moves through rather than sits down.
Why this is a different job
Nobody sits down
An opening is not a banquet with a different guest list. Your guests arrive across the whole night instead of all at once, and almost nothing about the production plan survives that difference.
The room has to work at both ends of the night. We set the system for twenty people at five o'clock and for a few hundred at nine, rather than tuning for a full house and letting your first hour sound like an empty building. That first hour is usually when your press and your invited guests are in the room.
When there is a branded backdrop, the booth stops being an amenity and becomes the part of your night that leaves the building. Tell us what you are bringing and what the artwork has to do, and we will place the booth and light it so the photos look like the brand rather than like a bar at closing time.
Most openings happen in a building that is not finished, or one that is open for business while we work. We walk the load in ahead of the date and set up around the trades who are still on site. Certificates of insurance go out as part of booking. Tell us who it needs to name and by when.

Events we run this way
If your event is about a place opening or a brand showing up somewhere, it belongs on this page rather than on the corporate one.
- Grand openings for bars, restaurants, and retail
- Venue and taproom launches, including soft openings the week before
- Rally week sponsor activations and brand tents
- Artist and label events tied to a property or a product
- Ribbon cuttings, anniversary nights, and reopenings after a remodel
- Sponsor stages at street festivals and community events

Tell us about the opening
Send us the date, the property, and roughly how many people you expect through the door. If you are bringing a backdrop or a stage, say so and we will build around it. We come back within one business day.

Where these happen
Deadwood and Sturgis carry most of the region's opening and activation work, and rally week concentrates a year of it into ten days. Rapid City runs on its own calendar.
Questions
What planners ask us
Can you work around a custom backdrop we are bringing?
Yes, and tell us about it early. Send us the finished dimensions and how it rigs, whether it is freestanding, tensioned, or needs a wall, and we will place the booth and the lighting around it instead of working out where it goes on the day. If you want us to light it so it photographs the way your designer intended, that is a different fixture than the one we would bring otherwise.
Our crowd comes and goes over several hours. Does that change anything?
It changes most of it. An opening is not a seated event, so the room has to hold up at nine o'clock with a few hundred people in it and at five o'clock with twenty. We set the system for both rather than tuning for a full house and letting the first hour sound like an empty building. The booth gets staffed the same way, so the line moves during the rush instead of becoming the event.
The building will still be getting finished. Can you work with that?
We plan for it. We walk the load in ahead of the date, agree on when the truck can be at the door, and work around whichever trades are still on site. If the space is open for business while we set up, we stage the gear so your floor stays usable and we are not running cable through a room with customers in it.
Do you carry insurance, and can you name our property?
Yes. Certificates of insurance go out as part of booking. Tell us who it needs to name, what limits the property or the landlord requires, and the date you need it in hand.
Opening a room? Tell us the date and the property.
