Live Sound and PA Systems in Deadwood

Front of house, monitors, and an engineer who stays at the board

On the ground

This work in Deadwood

Deadwood rooms are unusually reflective, because they were built out of stone and brick by people who were not thinking about a band. That changes the mix more than most acts expect, which is why we do a real line check instead of assuming the room will behave. Outdoor stages down in the gulch bounce off the canyon walls, so we aim tight and keep it controlled. Your input list gets worked out before the date, so soundcheck is a check rather than a discovery.

Conditions in Deadwood

Deadwood sits in a gulch with one main street, one way sections, and parking that fills, so load in gets scheduled with your venue rather than assumed. Several of the best rooms in town are a floor up in historic buildings, which means freight elevators and a real plan instead of a few trips from the curb. The rooms themselves are hard surfaced and lively, so we tune for the stone rather than fight it with volume. The reward is that your guests are staying within walking distance, and nobody slips out of your reception early to beat a drive home.

How we work

Our approach

01

The input list comes before the date, not at line check

Every act has a stage plot and an input list, even the ones who have never written one down. We get it in advance, work out the channel count, the monitor sends, and what has to be wireless, and show up with the right rig patched and ready. Sorting this out at load in is how soundchecks run an hour long.

02

Monitors matter more than the main system

The audience notices front of house. The performers only notice monitors. If the band cannot hear itself, the performance suffers regardless of how good the room sounds out front. We build monitor mixes properly and check them with each performer rather than sending everyone the same thing.

03

Somebody stays at the board

A live mix is not a setting, it is a job. Levels move, a guitarist changes pedals, a speaker steps back from the microphone. We keep an engineer at the console through the whole performance so those things get handled in the moment instead of becoming the thing everyone remembers.
