Festivals and Outdoor Events in Rapid City
Power, weather, and a stage schedule that holds
On the ground
This work in Rapid City
Outdoor events here happen downtown, in the parks, and at the fairgrounds, and each one comes with a different set of neighbors. Downtown has a noise ordinance and apartments directly above the storefronts, so we aim and limit the system to cover your crowd instead of the neighborhood. Done right, nobody has to come find you at nine o'clock and ask you to turn it down. We walk the site and build the plan before we quote the audio.
Conditions in Rapid City
Rapid City has the widest range of rooms in the region, so the plan changes a lot from job to job. A conference hotel ballroom is a different night than a downtown space or an open air plaza, and we spec from your actual room rather than from a standard package. The thing worth knowing about Saturdays here is that the good rooms turn over back to back, so our load in window is a real one and we work to it. Summer books out early because tourist season and wedding season land on top of each other, and the first two weeks of August belong to the rally in every direction. We are based here, so travel is not a line on your quote.

How we work
Our approach
Power comes before audio
Outdoor sites almost never have the power people assume they do. We walk the site, find out what circuits exist and what else is already on them, and figure out whether a generator is required. Getting this wrong does not cause a small problem. It causes the system going down in the middle of a headline set.
The weather plan is agreed in advance
Afternoon storms in the Black Hills are normal and they arrive fast. Before the date we agree on who makes the call, at what point, and what happens when they make it. Covering gear, pulling a stage, or moving indoors are all workable if they were decided beforehand and chaotic if they were not.
Changeovers are a schedule problem
Multi act outdoor events run late because changeovers eat the schedule. We patch for every act on the bill in advance, work out the order with your stage manager, and keep transitions tight. The last band on the bill is usually the one people came for, and it should not be the one that gets cut short.
