Live Sound and PA Systems in Rapid City

Front of house, monitors, and an engineer who stays at the board

On the ground

This work in Rapid City

Live work here runs from downtown bar stages to church auditoriums to a banquet room with a band set up in the corner. Every room is different and every input list is different, so we get your stage plot ahead of time and show up already patched instead of sorting it out at line check while your audience files in. Downtown outdoor stages have a noise ordinance and people living above the storefronts, and we mix to that rather than find out the hard way. Somebody stays at the board for the whole set.

Conditions in Rapid City

Rapid City has the widest range of rooms in the region, so the plan changes a lot from job to job. A conference hotel ballroom is a different night than a downtown space or an open air plaza, and we spec from your actual room rather than from a standard package. The thing worth knowing about Saturdays here is that the good rooms turn over back to back, so our load in window is a real one and we work to it. Summer books out early because tourist season and wedding season land on top of each other, and the first two weeks of August belong to the rally in every direction. We are based here, so travel is not a line on your quote.

How we work

Our approach

01

The input list comes before the date, not at line check

Every act has a stage plot and an input list, even the ones who have never written one down. We get it in advance, work out the channel count, the monitor sends, and what has to be wireless, and show up with the right rig patched and ready. Sorting this out at load in is how soundchecks run an hour long.

02

Monitors matter more than the main system

The audience notices front of house. The performers only notice monitors. If the band cannot hear itself, the performance suffers regardless of how good the room sounds out front. We build monitor mixes properly and check them with each performer rather than sending everyone the same thing.

03

Somebody stays at the board

A live mix is not a setting, it is a job. Levels move, a guitarist changes pedals, a speaker steps back from the microphone. We keep an engineer at the console through the whole performance so those things get handled in the moment instead of becoming the thing everyone remembers.
